Datastream Global Index
Introduction

Datastream Global Indices draw on Datastream’s coverage of currently 40 equity markets and provide an independent standard for equity research. A representative sample of stocks has been chosen for each of the markets. Using FTSE Actuaries classifications, the constituent stocks are allocated into industries/sectors, and the Datastream Global Indices calculated. Three key features underlying the Datastream Global Indices are:

Datastream sectors

Within each market, indices and aggregates are available for Datastream sectors. Mnemonics to access Datastream sectors are described in the Datastream sectors topic.

Market indices

For each market, an aggregate index of all sectors is available. This is the Market index

Regional and World Indices

Markets are aggregated at both market and sector level to form indices and aggregates for the world and certain geo-political regions. These are described in the Regional and world indices topic.

Notes

All the Datastream indices were recalculated in April 1999 with historic index values based on the index constituents on that date.

Future additions to the list of Datastream Global Indices are currently planned. The addition of any new markets will be announced by newsletter and the 99Nxxx news channel.
